19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court after that period of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an better service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

He rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
